The song is produced by hitmakers Stargate, known for their work with some premier UK, R&B and hip hop acts of the day. The production has a drum-based beat backed by a guitar-oriented melody. The song showcases Jordin\'s mid-range vocals. The lyrics are about a relationship that is ending as the title refers to memories from the relationship that will be etched on her heart "just like a tattoo". The lyrics seem to target a younger audience.[citation needed]
