The Samoan Islands or Samoa Islands (formerly referred to as Navigators\' Islands) is an archipelago covering 3,030 sq km in the central South Pacific, forming part of the Polynesia region. Its population is approximately 250,000 persons, sharing a common language, Samoan, and culture, the fa\'asamoa. As of 2008, politically there are two jurisdictions on the islands:
